Open Access Commitment

Opera News: Journal of Music and Performing Arts operates under a diamond open-access publishing model. All articles published by the journal are made freely and immediately available online to readers worldwide, without subscription fees, registration requirements, or other access restrictions.

The journal supports the principle that scholarly and creative knowledge should be accessible to researchers, educators, students, performers, artists, cultural institutions, and the wider public, regardless of their geographic location or financial circumstances.

No Fees for Authors

The journal does not charge authors at any stage of the publication process. There are no:

Manuscript submission fees;
Article processing charges;
Peer-review fees;
Editorial or production fees;
Page or length charges;
Charges for tables, figures, or colour illustrations;
Publication fees; or
Mandatory language-editing or formatting fees.

Authors are not required to apply for waivers or discounts because publication is free for all contributors.

Free and Immediate Access

All published content is openly accessible from the date of publication. Readers may access, read, and download articles without payment or institutional subscription.

The journal does not impose an embargo period on published articles. The final published version is made available immediately upon publication.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright to their work unless a different arrangement is expressly stated and agreed upon in writing.

Published articles are made available under the open-access licence specified on the journal website and on each individual article. The applicable licence defines how readers may share, reproduce, distribute, adapt, or reuse the published work.

Any reuse of journal content must:

Properly acknowledge the original author or authors;
Cite the original article and journal;
Include the article’s Digital Object Identifier, where available;
Indicate whether any changes were made; and
Comply with the terms of the applicable open-access licence.

Third-party material included in an article may be subject to separate copyright or licensing restrictions. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce material for which they do not hold the copyright.

Author Self-Archiving

Authors may deposit and share their submitted manuscript, accepted manuscript, and published article in appropriate locations, subject to the licence and version information associated with the article. These locations may include:

Institutional repositories;
Subject-based repositories;
Personal or professional websites;
Academic networking platforms;
Research information systems; and
Funder-designated repositories.

The journal does not impose an embargo on the self-archiving of the final published version, provided that the original publication is properly cited.

Editorial Independence

The journal’s diamond open-access model does not influence editorial decision-making. Manuscripts are assessed solely on the basis of their:

Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope;
Originality and scholarly contribution;
Methodological and analytical quality;
Ethical compliance;
Clarity of presentation; and
Significance to music and the performing arts.

The financial status, institutional affiliation, nationality, geographic location, or funding position of an author has no effect on the editorial or peer-review process.

Peer Review

Research submissions are evaluated through the journal’s single-blind peer-review process. Reviewers know the identities of the authors, while reviewer identities remain confidential unless disclosure is required by law or expressly agreed upon.

Open access does not reduce or alter the journal’s academic standards. All manuscripts must satisfy the journal’s editorial, ethical, and peer-review requirements before publication.

Funding of the Journal

The journal’s publication costs are supported through institutional, organizational, publishing, sponsorship, or other non-author-funded arrangements. These funding arrangements do not permit sponsors or supporting organizations to influence editorial decisions, peer-review outcomes, or the interpretation of published research.

Any relevant financial or institutional support for the journal will be disclosed transparently.

Long-Term Availability

The journal is committed to preserving its published content and maintaining long-term access to the scholarly record. Article metadata and full-text content may be deposited with appropriate indexing, archiving, preservation, library, and scholarly-discovery services.

Where a formal preservation arrangement applies, the relevant service will be identified on the journal’s website.
